Plow Swimwear

Plow Surf Co wouldn’t exist without the incredible ocean. No water, no waves, no surf. Simple as that. Beyond this though, we are in AWE of the big blue. Forgive us being sentimental but the ocean truly is incredible, and so protecting it (and the Earth more generally) is part of our ethos. Our swimmers are designed with sustainability in mind and constructed of ECONYL - the fabric that is taking the swimwear World by storm. If you haven’t heard of it yet, you soon will!

What is ECONYL?

ECONYL is a circular fabric, made from post-consumer waste. Fabric scraps, industrial plastic waste, carpet flooring and fishing nets are just a few things that can be recycled back into pure nylon. The pure nylon is processed into yarns and polymers for the fashion and interior industries, such as our awesome swimmers.

What’s more impressive is that ECONYL has the potential to be recycled indefinitely, without losing its quality. Once your swimmers are at the end of their life they can go back into the regeneration system and start all over again. No more landfill for your old swimmers! If you’re finished with your Plows (RIP!) send them back to us and we’ll take it from there - either recycling or reselling depending on the condition. We’ll even reward you with a Plow voucher! Drop us an email on getplowd@plowsurf.co and we’ll sort it out from there.

Why ECONYL?

When we decided to start making swimwear, much like our surf hats, it was because we couldn’t find swimmers we truly loved, and it all grew from there. We knew that finding the right material would be critical. It had to:

  1. Be sustainable
  2. Have a top notch UPF rating
UPF is like SPF for clothing- the higher the number the more UV it’ll block
  3. Be sun cream and chlorine resistant
It’s baffling how many swimmers are not sun cream resistant, with the elastic going stringy when it’s had too much and losing all of its stretch. No thank you!
  4. Let us do our thing in the water without any embarrassing mishaps
  5. Slay with our signature designs printed on them!

Our research led us to Carvico Vita - a fabric made from ECONYL regenerated nylon. It’s a mix of recycled polyester and elastane and was already been making waves in Europe. It ticked all of our boxes and then some. We couldn’t be happier with our choice, and we’re even more thrilled that our customers agree

How do I care for my Plow ECONYL swimwear?

Much like any other swimwear, a little care will go a long way with your new togs. You’re probably already doing most of these but, if not, give it a whirl. We want to see you rocking those swimmers for years to come!

If you have any questions, or just fancy a natter about how great the ocean is, drop us a note on getplowd@plowsurf.co.

Rinse after use in cold or warm water. No matter if you’ve been in the pool, the sea or a freshwater lagoon, give it a rinse as soon as you can

Avoid ringing or crushing. It’s tempting, particularly in a rush but don't ring out your swimmers. Squeeze them gently then let them air dry the rest of the way.

Cold hand wash or gentle machine wash. Your swimmers love some TLC- wash them gently with a mild detergent and they’ll want to stick around for longer. If you have a wash bag, pop them in there for extra protection.

Do not tumble dry. Keep it natural and let Mother Nature dry for you. It’ll save on the electricity bills too.

Lay flat to dry in the shade. Much like our skin, our swimwear likes to shade bathe. Lay them out flat and let them relax.

Do not pack or store when wet. Let your bathers dry fully before packing them away, as you would with other clothes. If you’re in a rush to head out and need them with you, don’t panic, but lay them out to dry as soon as you get to your destination.
